Today is the first day of Advent! I know many people have already put up Christmas decorations, while other people are waiting for December 1st to do that. However, today being the 4th Sunday before Christmas Day, it is officially the beginning of the Christmas season, hence the time to start decorating. To start things off, I have a quick and easy pattern to share today for an elegant star garland. It’s perfect for adorning trees, doorways, or mantles.
Star Garland Crochet Pattern
Gauge: Not important for this pattern
Materials
- Light/DK/#3 weight yarn and Hook H
- Or—
- Fine/#2 weight yarn and Hook D
- Approximately 2 yards, 7″ yarn per star + 23″ yarn per length of chain between stars
Abbreviations – US terms
- Ch – chain
- Sc – single crochet
- Sl st – slip stitch
- Sk – skip
- Sp(s) – space(s)
Finished size
- DK weight yarn: Star measures 2″ across
- Length of chain between stars: 4″
- Fine weight yarn: Star measures 1 1/4″ across
- Length of chain between stars: 2″
Instructions
Round 1: Ch 24, sc 2 in 2nd ch from hook, sc 3 on other side of same ch. (5 sc)
Round 2: (Ch 3, sl st in next sc) 5 times. (5 ch-3 sps)
Round 3: (Sc 2, ch 2, sc 2) in ch-3 sp, repeat in remaining ch-3 sps, sl st to 1st sc.
Remove hook from loop and insert in 1st sc, back to front. Grab loop and pull it through to back. Sk next 2 chs of garland, sl st in next ch. Sl st through both back loop of ch at point of star and next ch of garland together. Sl st in each of next 2 chs of garland.
Pass garland between hook and working yarn to opposite side. Repeat from Round 1 for as many stars as desired. Ch 16 to finish garland. Fasten off and weave in ends.
