My Sister, Sewing

Pink Ruffle Shirt

After my sister made her first shirt, she wanted to do another one that was a little more special. Finding inspiration online, she decided on one with ruffles, so that’s what she did next. She picked a fabric similar to the poplin she used before, but it’s a tiny bit thicker and stiffer, and the shade of pink is darker. Here I’ve paired the shirt with the blue skirt, as she often did.

The basic shape of this shirt is very similar to the first one. It was also made using the pattern she drafted using her measurements. Like the first button-down shirt, it has princess seams from the shoulders in front and back.

It also has cuffs, a separate button placket, and a collar stand. But instead of the typical shirt collar, it has a ruffle sewn into the collar stand.

The cuffs also have ruffles sewn in the same way, and a ruffle is sewn in on each side of the button placket.

The ruffles have the exposed edge finished with a tight overlock stitch. We all thought it gave it a nice edge accent, and that way she didn’t have to worry about bulkier ways of finishing the edge. To finish it off, the shirt has these shiny rounded pink buttons. She did love those shiny buttons!

I believe this was one of her favorite shirts that she made. She was very excited when she was working on it, and seemed very happy with it when she finished. It featured often in her ensembles, and I feel like the ruffles suited her well.
