I suddenly realized it’s June already, and July is not far off. That means it’s time to start making things for the 4th of July. If you already have a flag, you might be looking for some decor in a red, white, and blue theme, and I have just the thing for you. This star coaster is quick to work up, and a set of them would be perfect to accent a picnic table under glasses of ice cold lemonade.
American Star Coaster Pattern
Materials
- Worsted weight yarn: 7 yds red, 8 yds white, 6 yds blue – The yarn I used had no labels, but I know some of it was Red Heart. I think Red Heart Super Saver might be a good choice, in White, Cherry Red, and Royal.
- Hook F (3.75mm)
- Yarn needle
Gauge
16 sc x 8 rows = 4″ x 4″
Finished measurements
About 4 3/8″ after 7 rounds, measured from star point through center to opposite side.
Stitches used
- Ch – chain
- Sc – single crochet
- Hdc – half double crochet
- Dc – double crochet
- Sl st – slip stitch
Notes
For the stripes, change to a new color for the last pull-through of the last stitch of the previous round. Don’t cut the red and white yarn. Instead, just carry it up the back as you go.
Photos showing steps for rounds 2 and 3 are at the end of the pattern.
