Here is the matching beanie for the Aran Scarf. Both of these I made for my brother to match the sweater my younger sister knitted him for Christmas. The Aran Beanie features cables for its center design, while the rest of it is done in a moss pattern to mirror the look of the sweater.

Materials
- Light/#3/DK weight yarn
- Crochet Hook F
- Yarn needle for weaving in ends
Abbreviations – Written in US terms
- Ch – chain
- Hdc – half double crochet
- Fpdc – front post double crochet
- Bpdc – back post double crochet
- Fptc – front post treble crochet
- Sk – skip
- St(s) – stitch(es)
Gauge
17 dcs x 10 rows = 4” x 4” (10cm x 10cm)
Notes
The ch-2 at the beginning of each row counts as a stitch. To make the cables, each post crochet stitch is made around a post crochet stitch of the previous row. The half double crochets are done in the half double crochets of the previous row. Be very careful to work in the correct stitches.
The beanie is worked bottom up in 4 sections: 2 cable sections and 2 moss sections. Be sure to keep track of each section and to work each row with the sections in their corresponding places.
Sizing
The approximate measurements for different sizes are shown in the table below. If you wish to make the hat in a size that is not in the table, you can do so by increasing or decreasing the number of starting chains in increments of 4. Then adjust the moss section accordingly, increasing or decreasing the number of repeats by 1.

Using a yarn needle and the long tail left over from the starting chs, join the sides of the hat together. Upon reaching the crown, do a whip stitch around the top edge through every other stitch. Pull yarn tight to cinch the crown, then secure by sewing across several times. Fasten off and weave in the ends.
